On the second day after I twisted my knee, I cannot walk at all because it swelled so bad. I had to take a day off to see a doctor. My family doctor told me that there is nothing he can do at the time but he suggested me to go to an acupuncturist for treatment.

Acupuncture is a technique that use needle to stimulate your body. The acupuncturist will insert and manipulating needle into certain acupuncture point depends on your illness. There is no scientific data that prove acupuncture works. However, acupuncture had been practiced for thousand years in china and it works well. Also there is no known side effect.

My mother had back problem for years. I remember seeing her receiving the acupuncture treatment when I was small. The doctor keep plugging needle in my mother’s back. He knows the acupuncture point so well that he didn’t think before plugging the needles in. There was like 50 needles on my mother’s back (it was kind of scary for a kid). After that he connected electricity to a few of the needle. I saw her back muscle jumping like crazy. She felt much better after the treatment. However, it usually last a few day and she need to go back for more treatment.

So I go to the acupuncturist to get some treatment on my knee. The acupuncture lay me down on the bed. He open a sealed package and take out some needle. He then plugs five needles in five different acupuncture points on my knee. After that he put an infrared light above my knee. After first I feel nothing. Then I feel heat at the acupuncture point. Later I feel like the needle is moving, like someone is shaking it. I raised my head to check but see the needle is not moving. It last about 30 minute. The acupuncturist throw away the needle afterward. Right after the treatment I still have the swelling and am not able to walk.

On the day after the treatment I found that the swelling is gone. That is still some pain when I step on the floor. I put the knee brace on and I am able to walk a little bit. It is kind of like magic because I thought I won’t be able the use that leg for another week! I am going to have another treatment today. Hope my knee will be fully heal by next week so I can start working out again.
