One of the most popular forms of weight loss surgeries is lap band surgery. It has been around in the European countries since the past ten years, and has become popular in the United States about three years back. Like all types of surgeries and procedures, there are some misunderstandings and misconceptions associated with lap band surgery.
People generally consider lap band surgery a great means of losing weight. However, instead of considering it to be a surgery to lose weight, it should be considered a commitment to make life better to the patient. It is the best option for people who have tried diets and exercise, but to no avail. Of course, it may first be difficult for the patient to make the life changes associated with this, but it is a safe means for an overweight person to lose weight successfully.
Some people think that lap band surgery prevents proper nutrition to the patient. However this is not true as vitamins and supplements are prescribed after the surgery to make up for any associated loss in nutrition. With the restriction of the stomach, it is necessary for the patient to make changes to receive the required vitamins and minerals.
Though it is possible to lose weight quickly with lap band surgery, it is also possible to gain weight back too. It is only if a lifelong commitment is adapted that it is possible to lose weight, and not regain it. If you maintain old eating habits by eating what you used to eat, then the amount of weight loss decreases.
Weight loss in lap band surgery is not magical; only about 2-3 pounds of excess weight is lost in a week on following the physician’s eating and exercise plan. It is not that you will be under a liquid diet forever after the surgery. This is only a part of the recovery process, where solid foods can be introduced after four weeks of surgery. However meals have to be smaller than before.
The most important aspect to the success of lap band surgery is its follow up care. Without suitable modifications in lifestyle, it is not possible to lose any weight through lap band surgery. It is not easy to lose excess weight; however with the right attitude and commitment, it is possible to change your life for the better.
Today, lap band surgery is a great means of helping an obese person lose weight. However it can be considered to be a good option for weight loss only if the required lifestyle modifications are done for weight loss. Even a good and experienced surgeon should be chosen for the job. If these two conditions are met, it could be said that lap band surgery is a great means of losing weight.
I’ll be having the lap band surgery in about 3 weeks. I have chosen a doctor in Mexico his Name is Dr. Aceves. I was told that he is head of other doctors that perform this surgery. I Just want to know that he is a good doctor and that he is what they say he is. he’s in Mexicana, Mexico.
MY BROTHER HAD LAP BAND SURGERY A FEW MONTHS AGO.
FOR 5 WEEKS HE RAN A TEMPERATURE, THE DOCTOR REMOVE
THE FLUID FROM THE BAND AND HE FEVER WENT AWAY, NOW AFTER A FILL AGAIN TODAY (FIRST SINCE FEVER LEFT)
4 HOURS LATER HE HAS 102 DEGREE FEVER AGAIN. HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE ELSE? HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO.
I am about to have lap-band surgery in the next couple of weeks. I was forewarned about the complications in receiving care if you travel to Mexico to have it done. US and Canadian doctors won’t assume the liability of servicing work performed in Mexico as they cannot get insurance to cover them and there are many, many brands of lap bands that care for a for one of these from another country won’t happen.
It’s buyer beware ~ you get what you pay for and location does matter !!
I had lapband surgery 4 years ago. It’s not a magical cure. i lost alotof wieght over the first 2 years but the weight has crept ack up during and third amd forth year post surgery. You need to follow up the surgery with some mental stuff, a group, a counseller or a good riend, but really unless you find the answer to the WHY I got so fat in the first place…the weight will come back..as in the overeating will continue. I know that i’m not alone in this, and losing the weight a second time is harder then the first…and finding a fill point where you can still eat a healthy amount of food, and NOT overeat is very hard to achieve…find a good doctor, with a very accessable follow up care program…mexico may be cheaper but i don’t see how it can offer he aftercare thats needed..take the travel expense after the surgery into account…it can’t be cheaper. Many fills along the way and maybe some empties…if you get too tight or “abuse” your fill….as in eat thrugh it…and then your band site gets enflamed….you need a local aftercare option. I lost 100 lbs, and now am back up about 65, its been very discouraging…but it will probably work better for you….just find out why you overeat in the first place…i have not had sucess with this and it’s made it imposible for me to keep the weight off….FRUSTRATING!!! I keep trying..every Monday is a new week with a new commitment to lose..and every tuesday seems to be the start of another failure…..so get your head straight along with the surgery i think it’s so important.Lori
