Oxtail stew and white rice on a sick day

The weather was very bad in these few days. It had been hot in one day and chilling in the other. It also rain for the whole time. I was careless and dress too little on the chilling day. I caught some nasty cold. I had sore throat, nasal congestion and headache. I lost every bit of my energy that I have to take half day off from work.
I ate oxtail and white rice even i was sick
On my way home I was really hungry. I tried to ignore it and eat at home. However, I gave up to the Spanish restaurant right outside of the subway station. I love Spanish food. I can eat just rice and bean for three meals a day without any other dishes. I got into the store and found out the today special is Ox tail stews. It was one of my favorite foods and I ordered it without thinking. I could have got the lunch special size, which is smaller. However I ask for the whole order because I was so hungry.
Oxtail contain a lot of fat
Sure oxtails stew tastes good. However, oxtail is on of the fattest part of a cow. And most of the fat is saturated fat that could clog you blood vessel. Because half of the oxtail is bone, you don’t feel like you have eaten a lot. However, the calories of oxtail are very high and most of them are calories from fat. There are different oxtail recipe like stew and soup. Some of the fat will release to the sauce or soup, drinking these sauces or soup is just as bad as eating oxtail. Even though oxtail provides a good source of calcium, you should stay away from this part of cow.
White rice is bad for you because it is refine carbonhydrate
You might not know that white rice is bad for you too. When rice grows, there is a layer of skin that contains a lot of fiber and vitamin (brown rice). In order to get white rice, this layer of skin is removed in the farm. White rice is refine carbohydrate, which has not much nutrition value beside the high volume of carbohydrate. Also, when Spanish cook white rice, they put in extra salt and oil to make it taste better, which future decrease the health value of the white rice

i always use brown rice. White rice has been out of my diet for 5 yrs. I grew up in south florida where we ate alot of the cuban dishes white rice and yellow rice is very popular down there. Brown rice is healthier and i always eat it when i eat rice.

I am a lover of Caribbean food also and have to admit I have cut Oxtails out of my diet.
Now after reading how you broke it down and explained issues of it being such a “fatty part of the cow” I am glad that I am sticking to chicken, turkey and fish.
Great Post!!
