Tomato and Weight Loss
Tomato has always been controversial with some people debating whether it should be called a fruit or a vegetable. Some people have had it included in many weight loss diets, while others swear that eating a few tomatoes daily has improved their complexion and gave them a flawless skin. Tomatoes can be eaten in all forms – raw, ripe, boiled, steamed, pureed, crushed, in juice form or as a sauce. It is very rare that one can use a fruit or vegetable in so many ways and enjoy it at the same time.
Tomatoes are generally known as an exceptional source of Vitamin C. You will find other vegetables, which have a much higher content of nutrients and vitamins. However, there will be very few which offer a richer source of Vitamin C than the tomato. This antioxidant plays a major role in boosting the human body’s immune system and has astounding health benefit properties, such as prevention of cancer and heart diseases. This is because the tomato also contains potassium, which is a very critical ingredient for preventing a stroke (cardiac). It also is rich in carotenoids and lycopene, which actively fight and prevent cancer.
People, who want to employ it for weight loss, use this wonderful fatless vegetable in their weight-loss diet for a brief period of time, say 7-15 days while they exclude all major intake of cooked food. The menu on this tomato-centered diet would be on salads, soups and juice, alternating and/or combining with other vegetables and/or fruits. This vegetable is one of the favorites in weight-loss diets, because it is tasty, extremely versatile (can be eaten in many ways) and exceptionally effective. Its anti-oxidant properties further enhance its health benefits by keeping the body fighting fit and young looking. It is also a great success in these types of diets because it completely fat free and has a minuscule amount of calories attached to its name.
In order to enjoy all the health benefits that the tomato packs for you, you would need to ensure two things – (i) never store a tomato in the refrigerator, and (ii) never have a day pass without a tomato added in some way or other to your diet. This is one vegetable that never looses its qualities, despite being cooked. Hence, you can have it both raw and cooked and still enjoy all the properties and characteristics that make the tomatoes so popular.
Yes, the tomato besides helping you to loose weight and stay healthy can also be used as a beauty aid. Washing your face with tomato will give a very healthy glow to the face, side-by-side wiping away a good deal of the fine lines (if any) you have on the face.
